Pzazz: An Afternoon of Poetry & Jazz

Enjoy an enchanting mix of jazz & poetry in an intimate, inspiring atmosphere.

One of Michigan's most treasured vocalists, Twyla Birdsong, will be joined by guitarist Doug Fritch, bassist Trevor Lamb, plus poets Kim Griffin & Ruelaine Stokes for a "knock your socks off" afternoon of soaring jazz and spoken word.

Twyla Birdsong is a celebrated Michigan vocalist whose soulful blend of blues, gospel, jazz, and soul has captivated audiences for more than two decades at festivals, clubs, churches, and community venues. Known for her rich voice, emotional depth, and uplifting stage presence, she creates performances centered on connection, healing, and joy. Joining her are acclaimed Lansing guitarist Doug Fritch, whose versatile style fuses jazz, blues, funk, and rock; Detroit bassist Trevor Lamb, a seasoned performer and educator who has appeared multiple times at the Detroit Jazz Festival; spoken word artist Kim Griffin, a founding member of Voices of the Revolution whose work inspires empowerment and sisterhood; and Ruelaine Stokes, poet, arts organizer, and Lansing Poet Laureate Emerita whose work has helped shape the region’s literary community. The event will be hosted by Lois Mummaw, founding member and past president of the Jazz Alliance of Mid Michigan.
